Ruben de Graaff

Attorney-at-law

Ruben de Graaff has been an attorney-at-law at Pels Rijcken since 2020. He specialises in contract, tort and compensation, and has a keen interest in the interaction with EU law and human rights law. Ruben advises on complex issues and conducts proceedings up to and before the Supreme Court of the Netherlands. He has handled cases for clients in various sectors, including for public authorities, (health) insurers, energy companies and other listed and non-listed companies. In addition, Ruben has experience in advising on and conducting arbitration proceedings regarding contractual disputes.

After studying private law and European law, Ruben worked as a lecturer in civil law at Leiden University from 2013 to 2020. In 2020, he received his PhD from the same university for a dissertation on concurrent remedies in EU law and private law. Ruben publishes and teaches regularly. His research was awarded several times, e.g. for the best publication in the field of private law (VBR) and law generally (NJV).

Ruben is a regular contributor to the Dutch Review of Civil Law (NTBR) and a leading commentary on Dutch tort law. Ruben is a member of the Dutch Association of Civil Cassation Lawyers (VCCA), the Dutch Lawyers Association (NJV) and the Dutch Association for Civil Law (VBR).
