Mathijs Peters has been working as a lawyer at Pels Rijcken since 2020. He advises and litigates in both the private and administrative law sphere on matters concerning environmental liability law. Mathijs is particularly interested in the application of human rights to environmental issues, enforcement and cost recovery in cases of environmental pollution, shipping accidents, international environmental law and the energy transition.
Mathijs studied at Leiden University and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He completed a bachelor’s in Law and Tax Law and took extracurricular courses in sustainable development. He wrote his master’s thesis on public international law.
