Mathijs Peters

Mathijs Peters has been working as a lawyer at Pels Rijcken since 2020. He advises and litigates in both the private and administrative law sphere on matters concerning environmental liability law. Mathijs specializes in solving legal issues related to PFAS contamination. This includes soil and water contamination with PFAS, as well as civil proceedings in the event of PFAS contamination. Mathijs furthermore advises and litigates on the application of human rights to environmental cases (Article 2 and 8 ECHR), enforcement and cost recovery in cases of environmental pollution, maritime accidents with (potential) environmental consequences and international environmental law.

Mathijs studied at Leiden University and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva. He completed bachelor’s in both Law and Tax Law and took extracurricular courses in sustainable development. He wrote his master’s thesis on public international law.
