Gijsbrecht Nieuwland joined Pels Rijcken in 2010. He is a member of the Supreme Court practice and the Criminal Law department. As an experienced Supreme Court litigator, Gijsbrecht handles cases that involve all aspects of private law, especially property law and insolvency law and (government) liability law. Gijsbrecht regularly litigates before district and appeal courts. For example, he represents the Dutch Public Prosecution Service in civil cases involving attachments under criminal law and damages. He also advises on civil law complications that arise in the context of criminal proceedings, e.g. in relation to attachment.
Gijsbrecht received his master’s degree in law from Leiden University and his MJur from Oxford University. He regularly lectures and writes about procedural law and property law, and about topics at the intersection of civil and criminal law.
