Matthijs Timmer joined Pels Rijcken as a lawyer in 2019. He previously completed his legal traineeship at a niche firm in The Hague, following which he worked as legal counsel in administrative law at a large company. At Pels Rijcken, Matthijs focuses on damages under administrative law, including expropriation, planning blight and compensation for loss. As legal counsel, he also gained extensive experience with environmental and planning law in politically sensitive contexts – experience that can be very useful in his work at Pels Rijcken.
Matthijs completed his degree in Constitutional and Administrative Law, with a minor in Economics, cum laude at Leiden University. He is a monthly contributor to the journal Rechtspraak Aansprakelijkheids- en Verzekeringsrecht ("Liability and Insurance Case Law") with a selection of high-profile case law concerning government liability, with a special focus on case law from the European Court of Human Rights.
