Katrien Winterink has been with Pels Rijcken since 2009 and specialises in environmental law. She focuses in particular on environmental liability law, environmental enforcement and soil law. Katrien has represented various authorities in the settlement of major environmental disasters that have occurred in the Netherlands, such as the fire at Chemie-Pack, where a large quantity of chemicals were released into the environment, and the asbestos fires in Roermond and Wateringen. Katrien is also specialised in government liability law. She represents Dutch municipalities, provinces and the Dutch State in liability proceedings at the interface of civil law and administrative law. Katrien's extensive knowledge of both civil law and administrative law enable her to quickly get to the bottom of complex matters and be attentive to all the interests involved.
Katrien graduated cum laude from Leiden University with a master’s degree in Dutch Civil Law. In addition to her activities at Pels Rijcken, Katrien teaches soil law at Geoplan. Katrien is co-author of the book Bodemsanering in juridisch perspectief (Legal Perspective on Soil Remediation) and co-developer of the Calamiteitenapp (Disaster App). Katrien is also a member of the Vereniging van Milieurecht Advocaten (VMA) (Environmental Lawyers Association).
