Ida de Waal has been an attorney-at-law at Pels Rijcken since 2026, advising and litigating on a variety of matters within the field of environmental law.
Ida studied law at Utrecht Law College (LLB hons. cum laude) and the University of Cambridge. She obtained a master's degree in Constitutional and Administrative Law with a specialisation in Environmental Law (LLM cum laude) and in Private Law with a specialisation in Commercial Law (LLM cum laude) from Utrecht University. Afterwards, she conducted PhD research into the coherence in chemicals, product and waste legislation in light of the circular economy transition. She obtained her doctorate (cum laude) for her thesis ‘A Legal Framework for the Circular Economy in the European Union’. Ida then worked as an Assistant Professor at the Utrecht Centre for Water, Oceans and Sustainability Law.
Ida is a visiting fellow at Utrecht University and frequently publishes in the field of environmental law, focusing especially on legal aspects of the circular economy transition.
